Colorado Roadtrip - on the road from Dallas
I haven’t even done our Memorial
Day trip to TN/NC blog posts, and here I am posting our impromptu trip to
Colorado Blog over the fourth of July weekend.
On Thursday morning, with the
trailer already hooked up and Blackie on, we say goodbye to Abby and McGee
(McGee is our new rescue goober dog) and headed up to Colorado Springs. 732
miles and we’re doing it in a day so we can get our rides in. The ride takes
over 400+ miles to get out of Texas! We stop in Dumas (home of the Ding Dong
Daddy – had to look that up: Dumas Chamber
-- there’s a song, “I’m a ding dong daddy from Dumas”: Ding Dong Daddy from Dumas
) for gas and lunch at 287 Roadhouse (287 Roadhouse
yes, we were on 287). Saw plenty of wind farms on the way (many under
construction) and even a pile up on the interstate when a semi had a bit of
trouble getting onto the highway carrying a wind blade. For perspective, wind
blades can be the length of the Eifel Tower (I have a client who manufactures
wind blades).
We were thinking of an RV lifestyle. This RV has a Harley AND a Jeep! |

Finally into New Mexico. Along that
part, we lost one of the fenders on the trailer (the roads suck), saw signs to
a volcano (Capulin Volcano National Monument),
went through a “safety corridor” where you have to turn your lights on, had a
brief storm, and a lot of wind.

Finally out of Texas and into New Mexico! Out of New Mexico and into Colorado!
Then into Colorado. The road sucks
on Interstate 25, with most of the Raton Pass under construction (but it’d be
nice if completed). Stop in Pueblo, Colorado, at Outpost Harley Davidson (Outpost Harley Davidson) but only
bought a poker chip because I didn’t like any of the women’s shirts (most of
them don’t do a good job on location branding) and Tony thought their shirts ($60+)
were overpriced.
Then to the Hilton Garden Inn in
Colorado Springs (right near the Air Force Academy north entrance – I tried to
take a picture on the bike of their awesome stadium in the mountain, but epic
fail since a bit too far away -- and the images on a google search aren’t great
either) to check in. I stay at the hotel while Tony heads to Harper’s to unload
the bike an put in his garage (supposed to storm – they just got hit with
floods and hail in Denver that day), undo the trailer and head back for the
night.
Disclosure: I am not a professional photographer. My photos are impromptu, unstaged and taken while in a moving vehicle, or on a moving bike.
