On Tuesday morning, off to Maggie Valley. Al, Eileen and I in the RV (https://www.newmarcorp.com/ ), with Tony heading out on his solo ride through Little River Road to 441 to Blue Ridge Parkway into 72 to Maggie Valley (http://www.maggievalleyrides.com/index.html) -- this site (and his FB) has some well plotted out rides to take, as well as information -- and this guy is from Florida!). We’re staying on the creek at Stonebridge RV Resort (https://www.stonebridgecampgrounds.com/). Tony and I will sleep in the “garage.” We get out of their driveway and on the road. The RV is loud and it’s really warm. And the RV makes you feel each and every bump. It’s also huge! We get on 40 towards Maggie Valley and Al handles the various lane changes through Knoxville with flying colors. We stop at a rest area before we get to North Carolina border – there will be two tunnels (Al doesn’t like tunnels). 40 is a pretty curvy interstate with semis flying past us. But, we make it over to the Maggie Valley exit and pass the Exxon gas station Tony and I spent quality time at on the “ride from hell” (in another blog post) I waved. Just about six miles and Tony gives us an escort into Stonebridge. And then they give us an escort to our spot. We first get the trike out. After our difficulty in Maryville, while it looked more level here, it still caused issues – the pipes wanted to go into the ground. The ramp is just too steep for the trike, but after a bit of work, we finally get it off. And then get the RV “hooked up.” I had a sales presentation at 4 pm – wifi was a bit spotty, but I had warned client in advance that I was (1) on vacation and (2) at an RV park that could have spotty wifi. It actually went OK – a couple of pauses and they were glad I made the meeting!

For dinner, we chose Pop’s Butts on the Creek (https://www.popsbuttsonthecreeknc.com/). It’s a BBQ place next to the RV park. As I’ve said in the past, I’m not a big BBQ person. I ordered chicken and sausage with mac ‘n cheese and cole slaw. They ordered ribs and brisket and sausage and catfish. My chicken and sausage were good, and the mac ‘n cheese was really good. They weren’t so keen on the ribs (not much meat) or the brisket (overcooked). We wish we had ordered the peach cobbler with ice cream. Then back to the RV where we picked up some wood to have a fire in the pit next to the creek. Unfortunately the wood was pretty green and it took A LOT of starter sticks to finally get something going. It’s nice by the creek. I also go on a walk about and discover the bathroom facilities – very nice with a “full bathroom” – toilet, sink, shower, shower bench! Eventually time to go to bed in the garage. The mattress isn’t awful, but wasn’t a great sleep. RVs are loud. The whole “sell the house, buy an RV and live in Anywhere, USA” isn’t quite what I was thinking after day 1. (BTW, I officially suck at blogging since this is a month+ old. And then it’s hard to remember it all).
