Ride Day 4 (Day 5) of 2025 Epic Motorcycle Trip: Moab to The Arches to Park City, Utah - Lots of red rock!

This morning, we got up and watched some of The Open before having breakfast tacos at the Homewood Suites (pretty good), loading up the bike and heading out pretty early to go to Arches.

An Arch!
"The Arch" in Arches we didn't see (you have to hike).

Arches National Park

Arches National Park entrance is only a couple of miles from the Hotel. We use our America the Beautiful annual pass for the second time and head up. The start of the ride into the park has a few switchbacks (that seems to be the case of the two state parks we’ve gone to so far this trip).

It’s about 25 miles to the end of the road, with quite a few stops you can take along the way (but mostly stops you can take to go hiking off the road – we didn’t do that.

Not an arch

We went to the end. Stopped. And then met up with our raven friend (and maybe his/her mate) who wanted to go for a ride on the bike.

Timed photo (we don't get many together)

Our raven friend (he tried to get into the windshield pouch).

Looks like a golf ball teed up!

And then we went back to the Visitors Center for a sticker and a patch before heading on our way to Park City.

The ride from Arches (191 to 70 to 191/6) all of the way to Wellington is NOTHINGNESS. We did have a brief adventure since Tony programmed the ride route to get us off the Interstate earlier than just after Green River. Mistake. This detour was an unrideable road. We turned around. Bad enough that I got off the bike so Tony could get out of the rut he got stuck in.

Not a good road to ride on off of I-70

Got off, turned around on the not-so-good road off of I-70

Back to Green River to 191. I wanted to gas up in Green River, since I was seeing signs saying “next service in 110 miles on I70” and I was worried that could be the same on 191. Tony thought we’d be fine. More NOTHINGNESS.

But, in Wellington, a Chevron! We gas up.

A billboard for gas, after 100+ miles of nothingness

Gas station in Wellington

There is actually a small span of road that has quite a few gas stations. Until you get past Price. Then NOTHINGNESS (but prettier riding and views, just no gas stations). I’m happy that we got gas in Wellington.

Eventually we get on Interstate 15 for about 15 miles before we exit to 189 (just past Provo). It’s hot. Really hot. 189 is supposed to be a pretty ride (called Deer Creek). It is for a bit, but the road is pretty poor, with grooves. And it’s hot. We pretty much take this into Park City, Utah.

Tunnel!

This may be Deer Creek (looks like a small lake, with plenty of boating)

Checked in at the Doubletree Hotel (Doubletree – The Yarrow, 1800 Park Avenue, Park City, UT 84060). It’s okay, but so far our least impressive stay. We have an early dinner at Sergio’s Mexican, right across the parking lot from the hotel. Rest up for the night. Get up to watch a bit of The Open before we head to Idaho Falls, Idaho (next state to cross off the list). Also, I realize my last count was off. We’re up to 23 states and tomorrow, Idaho, will make it 24!
